For one thing, it’s not called Colin You Anus, instead plumping for the more conservative title Happy New Year, Colin Burstead......
The film is described as: “A poignantly funny and razor-sharp observation of English family dysfunction. Colin has rented a stately country home for his extended family’s New Year celebrations. He’s the centre of attention until his estranged brother David unexpectedly arrives, throwing the family dynamic far off orbit.” The film stars Neil Maskell in the title role, with the cast also including the likes of Sam Riley, Hayley Squires and Charles Dance.

aouch !
Not only does the English Session Orchestra's score feel overly omnipresent and ominous (especially during anything to do with "the German threat"), but Dance's narration is at times wearingly portentous and pretentious, with warnings about "the threat going up by the day and time running out" as the Spitfire designers struggled to get enough planes ready for production.
A tale that's fascinating enough without those extra, actually enervating embellishments.

The Woman in White was filmed in various National Trust properties in Northern Ireland. Of Charles Dance, who plays Laura’s uncle, she says, ‘He was lovely but he’s so tall! When he unfurls himself from his chair, he has this really commanding presence.’ Jessie Buckley is now a firm friend......

Ep 1/5 - Sunday 22 April - 9.00pm-10.00pm - BBC ONE

First published in 1859, The Woman in White tells the story of two half-sisters, Laura Fairlie and Marian Halcombe who, along with their drawing teacher, are pulled into a deadly plot involving a mentally disabled woman — the woman in white.
And, while definitely a detective story, it is also a treatise on the appalling way married women were treated in the 19th century when it came to their rights, or lack thereof. Particularly when they were wealthy, and their finances were involved.
The novel itself is considered to be the first real detective story, with many twists and turns, authentic police work and a shocking ending.
