After the iconic TV series The Jewel in the Crown, in which he played
the dashing Guy Perron he was invited to screen-test for James Bond. 'My agent
at the time rang up and said, "Well, it's happened, darling. They've asked
you to test for Bond. Don't do it, I beg you!" And I rather stupidly took her advice.'
