Patrick reviews

Yet rescuing the film from its weakness for cliche is its strong cast, with Dance – the go-to guy for condescending hauteur – a huge improvement on the original's campy Robert Helpmann.

Charles Dance gives a great performance as Dr. Roget, combining fierce intellect, commanding presence and charm, with hints of darkness that gradually drive his character to lunacy.

Dance adds another great villain to his repertoire....
