Charles on the set of Coup or Secret State (for Channel 4)

Charles, Chris Mullin, Gina Mc Kee, Gabriel Byrne

Gabriel Byrne plays the pivotal role of politician Tom Dawkins, the reluctant hero at the heart of this contemporary conspiracy thriller, who finds himself thrust into the spotlight of front-line politics when he least expects to be, and who risks everything by taking on the might of the establishment.
A massive industrial accident on Teesside leaves several people dead and raises awkward questions about the safety procedures of the US petrochemical company involved. As a man who has a profound belief in transparency and open government, Dawkins (Byrne) will have to tackle vested interests, financial, media, and military, both domestic and international, in his pursuit to uncover the truth and get justice for the families affected by the disaster. Along the way, he will struggle to keep his party onside and the electorate behind him, as he also weathers damaging revelations about his personal life. And as the investigation into the Teesside disaster proceeds, Dawkins becomes aware of establishment's secret ties to the petrochemical company and comes to realise that there are bigger powers at play behind the scènes

I find myself sharing a car with Charles Dance and Gina McKee. Gina, it turns out, is the daughter of a Durham miner, who for a time lived in Sunderland, about a mile from where I live. We are driven to a leafy part of Cheshire popular with Premier League footballers and delivered to a trailer encampment alongside a decaying walled garden.
We are shown into the green room, a schoolhouse. The actors, all old hands, know each other by sight, if not by name. Charles shakes hands with Lia Williams. Her face rings a bell, but he can't quite place her. "Have we worked together before?" "Yes," she replies. "In Birmingham. I was your wife." Today she is the head of MI5. Charles is the chief whip.

Charles is Nestor In Irma La Douce

Charles in the play Irma la Douce in 1979

Charles at The charity Leonard Cheshire Disability in 2010

Charles gave an award to producer Ash Atalla, producer of Trinity and others...the ceremony was hosted by actress Janie Dee at London Studios.
On set at Royal Holloway, a slightly oppressive architectural mixture of Hogwarts, Gormenghast and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Charles Dance is addressing staff and pupils in a mocked-up dining hall. I ask him about his participation in an ITV2 teen drama. “What attracted me was the great elements of black comedy which I don’t often get the opportunity to do,” he says. “Also I was attracted by Ash Atalla, despite the fact that I think he is a rogue. He is a terrifically innovative producer.”
How Ash Atalla went from The office to Trinity:
"If this sounds unlikely, given that Trinity, a comedy-thriller set in a Moxbridge college, is populated by sex-crazed teenagers and firmly aimed at ITV2s 18-34 target audience, you need to know it is anchored by the authoritative presence of Charles Dance. Charles and I hit it off immediately when we met. We just talked about women for an hour. We were both having girlfriend problems at the time and he gave me some advice and I gave him some. A few weeks of kiss and chase and a nice lunch later Dance was on board. "
