Jewel is being aired on PBS and I can't help but think it's renewed interest is due to Mr. D's new audience (thanks to Game of Thrones) What folks don't realize is what a BIG DEAL Jewel was when it first aired. It was pretty controversial for the time, dealing which such subjects as homosexuality, abortion & racial politics - to name a few. You couldn't miss an episode. Everything and everybody stopped Sunday nights when it aired - since it was just on the cusp before most people owned a VCR ( at least I didn't!) I was in art school at the time and we used to gather and have drinking parties. Every time a character in the series had a drink (gin fizz) so did we! By the end of some episodes, we were barely conscience.
